It's the new year, and the pressure to have goals set for the upcoming year is ever present. Never mind that nothing has really changed from December 31st to January 1st, our society, especially the wellness and fitness industries, love to push the idea that a new year requires a new, better you. (Check out this podcast from Ali on the Run if you're feeling the New Year Scaries!)
I am all for goal setting, and I have several large goals that I hope to accomplish this year. I even have a pretty big running goal! But, in addition to my bigger (more daunting) goals, I thought it would be fun to set some smaller goals for running that aren't focused on time or distance. Here are some ideas for resolutions aimed to bring a little extra joy to your running in 2025.
Run at least 3 new routes in Atlanta (I am guilty of running down and back on the Beltline 90% of the time!)
Listen to a new podcast on a run (have you listened to More Than Miles?)
Run in a new city
Buy new running gear from a woman owned running business
Try a new café or restaurant for a post run treat
Run a race distance that you haven't in a long time (for me this is a 5k!)
Set a PR in number of dogs seen per mile (current PR is 158 in a half marathon, roughly 12 dogs per mile)
Go for a run with a new running group
Try a new type of running (track, trail, beach)
Create the ultimate running playlist
Volunteer for a race
Try a new pair of running shoes
Stay healthy!
What are your goals for 2025? Have you made space for some fun goals? Let me know if you think of other fun running goals that I should add to my list!
Thanks for reading, and Happy New Year!
